Flog It! - Coming to South Somerset

NOW is the time to start dusting off those antiques you may have gathering dust in the bottom of the wardrobe because the popular BBC2 programme, Flog It!, is coming to the Fleet Air Arm Museum at RNAS Yeovilton next month.

Flog It!, presented by Paul Martin (pictured above), is now on its 12th series and regularly gets an audience of two million viewers each weekday.

The Fleet Air Arm Museum will be hosting the Flog It!  Valuation Day.  Rather like a treasure hunt, members of the public are invited to bring along up to three antiques and collectables they might be interested in selling.

Once valued, the owner and a team of experts decide whether an item should go forward for auction.  If the item is chosen it is sold a few weeks later – often with the owner making a tidy sum.

Everyone who goes along to the Valuation Day will receive a free valuation – even if their antiques are not chosen to go forward for auction.

Previous programmes have seen a ceramic bowl, bought for £4 at a car boot sale, sold for £1,500 at auction; and a lady in Aberdeen sold a Shelley tea set for a huge £3,400!

And a Flog It! spokesman said: "We’ve also surprised a gentleman who brought in a ceremonial cup; it later sold for an impressive £44,000!"

Series producer Louise Hibbins said the Fleet Air Arm Museum will provide a 'perfect setting' for the Valuation Day event.

"We all hope you will join us for a free valuation, if you’ve ever wondered how much your boot sale bargains or clutter in the loft might be worth, now is your chance to find out," she said.

Museum director Graham Mottram added:  “Flog It! is yet another high profile programme which has found the FAA Museum to be a great and unique location.

"Over the years we have hosted Mastermind, Antiques Roadshow and Question Time to name but a few. We look forward to seeing what our local community have lurking in their lofts."

The Valuation Day will be held on Thursday, February 7, at the Fleet Air Arm Museum between 9.30am and 4pm. The items selected  will then go under the hammer of Tamlyns Saleroom at Market Street, Bridgwater, on Tuesday, February 26.
