Bogus letter from China warning
POLICE in South Somerset are warning people not to be duped by a scam letter from China suggesting they may be a beneficiary of a multi-million pound back account.
Although the majority of people will realise that the letter is a scam and will promptly put it into the bin, some will be taken in by the genuine-looking letter and send off their personal details where they will then become victims of fraud.
Police in Wincanton, particularly the elderly, have sent out a warning to residents not to be conned.
Several people in the area have already received the letter from a man called Yang Lee Post who claims to be a financial manager for a Hong Kong bank.
He asks them to make a claim by replying to him, including their name and personal details.
PCSO Thelma Mead said: "This letter and its contents are clearly bogus and a scam. Anyone who receives it should throw it away immediately and certainly not reply or divulge any private information."
