YEOVIL NEWS: Lights, camera, action – A Night at the Movies is a success for the Mayor

A FANTASTIC night of entertainment was held at the Octagon Theatre as the Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Darren Shutler, hosted a charity concert.

The concert was entitled A Night at the Movies with all the acts performing songs, scenes and music associated with well-known films.

The opening half of the show saw performances by Yeovil Concert Band, Sarah Lowery, Castaway Theatre Group, Caz Hewitt, In Sync, Razzamataz, Hannah Woolmington and Erin Darling-Finan.

Yeovil Town Band opened the second-half of the concert followed by further songs from Erin Darling-Finan, Sarah Lowery, In Sync anc Caz Hewitt, together with performances by the Motiv8 group, Felicity Kerile and Grace Fahy, and a medley of scenes from the musical Hairspray with members of the Yeovil Amateur Pantomime Society.

All proceeds from the event will be shared between the Mayor’s two chosen charities for the year – St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice and the School in a Bag project operated by the Piers Simon Appeal.

Compere for the night was Bonny Sartin of the Yetties.

The Mayor said: “It was a fantastic night and my special thanks goes to Bonny for standing in at short notice to compere the evening and to Steve Hentschel for producing such a wonderful show.

“I would also like to thank my two charities and their volunteers for helping on the night and throughout the year.”

He also thanked everyone for attending – including a large number of visiting dignitaries from around Somerset and neighbouring counties.

“Many of the visiting Mayors said they were very impressed with the amount of talented people we had perform during the night – we should be proud of what Yeovil has to offer,” added Cllr Shutler.
