Old photographs, postcards or newspaper articles relating to Yeovil Country Park, including Ninesprings, Penn Hill, Summerhouse Hill, Wyndham Hill or Riverside are being asked for by the council’s countryside team who manages the park.

The images would be used on new information boards, site leaflets, displays, presentations and social media to enable other people to discover the valuable heritage of the park.

Staff from the district council’s Community Heritage Access Centre will be on hand to assist the Countryside Rangers. Refreshments will be available for those who share their artefacts while they are scanned. All items will be returned straight away.YEOVIL NEWS: Old photos wanted of Yeovil Country Park Photo 2

The photograph initiative is part of a scheme entitled the Heritage Lottery Funded Project V3; inVolve, Visit, Volunteer.

Becky Russell, community ranger at Yeovil Country Park, said: “As part of the Heritage Lottery Project, we have had the exciting task of working with our volunteers to uncover the heritage in the Ninesprings Valley Gardens and to restore the Victorian pleasure gardens for future enjoyment. It has been fascinating to discover hidden springs and restore lost vistas.

“People have come forward with fascinating stories and unseen images of the park from the past during this project and we are holding this event to invite more people to come forward with their images and memories to share with us and visitors to the park.”

The council’s leisure and culture spokesman, Cllr Sylvia Seal, said: “The photo sharing session will enable more people to discover Yeovil Country Park’s interesting heritage and allow for the Countryside Team to gather more evidence to illustrate the past of the park. We very much look forward to hearing from and seeing residents during the session.”
