A SOMERSET charity has produced a parody version of a new song which is becoming the latest internet sensation on YouTube.

The School in a Bag team, based at Chilthorne Domer near Yeovil, has made its very own version of Pen Pineapple Apple Pen – starring the charity’s very own chief executive and founder Luke Simon.

“Our version of Pineapple Pen was filmed on a budget in true charity style,” said Luke. “But we hope it makes people laugh as much as it did us making it!”

Pen Pineapple Apple Pen is a Japanese music video performed by Piko-Taro, a fictional singer-songwriter created by Japanese comedian Kosaka Daimaou.

The video was first posted on August 25, 2016, and has gone viral with an estimated over 40 million views and more than 553,000 likes and has been described as the next Gangnam Style music video craze.

School in a Bag provides bags filled with stationery equipment and resources that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and above all learn.

The initiative was created in late 2009 and since then around 73,000 SchoolBags have been shipped around the globe.

School in a Bag was formed as part of the Piers Simon Appeal which was set-up following the devastating Asian tsunami of 2004 which killed hundreds of thousands of people including former Preston School and Yeovil College student Piers Simon at the age of 33.

Each SchoolBag costs £20 and for more information about the charity and how to get involved go to http://www.schoolinabag.org/ .

Members of the School in a Bag team are always looking for more supporters and provide many talks around the area and are more than keen to get local schools involved.

Even though the work of School in a Bag is life-changing and goes into some of the most deprived and poverty-stricken places in the world, the charity team has a lot of fun along the way raising money.
