SCHOOL NEWS: Redstart to welcome Paralympic athlete

PARALYMPIC athlete Katrina Hart will visit Redstart Primary School in Chard on Friday (October 7, 2016) to lead a sponsored fitness circuit.

As part of the Sports for Schools programme, Katrina, who competed in the 2012 London Paralympics in the 4x100 relay, will help students and staff complete a circuits session followed by an assembly and a chance for questions about her sporting life.

Sports for Schools visit 1,300 primary schools nationwide a year with the aim that they gain a sense of achievement from being part of a scheme that has helped to raise nearly two million pounds for schools and PE equipment to date.

Redstart teacher and sports co-ordinator, Nicholas Platt, said: “We’re very excited to be welcoming Katrina Hart to Redstart.  She has cerebral palsy, completes in the T37 category and won bronze in the 4x100m relay in the 2012 games.

“The aim of the event is to inspire pupils to take up sport generally, but just as importantly to encourage them to discover and then pursue their passion in life.  Much of the money that is raised will be used to buy sports equipment for the school, while also supporting GB athletes.”
