SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Demolition plans for former ski centre

PLANS have been submitted to demolish the former Yeovil Ski Centre which has become over time a place for drug-dealing and drug-taking.

Yeovil Town Council has asked for permission for the “total demolition” of the old ski centre in Addlewell Lane which has stood empty for a number of years.

Papers submitted to South Somerset District Council say that the building has become “structurally unsafe and broken into on many occasions.”SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Demolition plans for former ski centre

It was also said: “Provides a location for undesirable activities such as drug-taking and drug-dealing and other anti-social behaviour.”

The old ski centre closed in 2007 and has remained ever since – becoming the scene of a number of fires and other unsavoury incidents.

Yeovil Town Council has been looking at what to do with the centre and now seems to have reached the obvious decision to demolish the property.

The centre had a floodlit artificial ski slope and two other learning slopes along with an electric lift and wheelhouse.

The property sits in the heart of the award-winning Yeovil Country Park - owned and managed by South Somerset District Council – and has previously supported the town council in the hope of redeveloping the site.
