YEOVIL NEWS: Tyre slashing update - three arrested on suspicion of robbery and criminal damage

POLICE arrested three men in the early hours of today (Friday, August 19, 2016) on suspicion of robbery and over 30 counts of criminal damage.

Officers were alerted to a robbery in Yeovil at approximately 3.40am and located a man nearby who matched the description of one of several men involved in the attack.

The victim had been approached and threatened by three men whilst walking home. He was able to escape unharmed.

When officers located the suspect was found to be in possession of a bladed article and he was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He was further arrested for criminal damage after officers then responded to reports that three men, also fitting the description of those involved in the robbery, had been seen damaging cars in the area.

More than 35 cars have been found to have had their tyres slashed in seven different streets including Roping Road and The Avenue.

Two further men were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. Searches then took place and property believed to be stolen during previous burglary was recovered by officers. PC George Pettingell, from Yeovil Police Station, said: “This was mindless vandalism which will have run in to several thousand pounds worth of repairs and replacement tyres for local residents.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we want to hear from anyone who has information about the incidents or who witnessed any of the cars being damaged.

“We can confirm 36 vehicles have been damaged but we are currently investigating and obtaining further information from the community.

Two of the three men arrested are 18 and the other is 24 and all are local to Yeovil.
