CARNIVAL: Gemini thanks the cafe team at Monks Yard

THE Ilminster-based Gemini Carnival Club has received a bumper £400 donation from the team at the café at Monks Yard.

On one day each month the popular café at Monks Yard, based at Horton Cross, is dedicated to MY Community Day where the takings are equally shared 50-50 between a local group or charity and the staff.

The idea has been running for a year and has been a big success and Marilyn Osborne, who owns Monks Yard with her husband Andrew, said MY Community Day was all part of their ethos of wanting to do something for the “community.”

Marilyn said that the MY Community Days for 2016 were already filled up with 12 nominated groups already in place.

The proceeds of the November event were donated to Gemini Carnival Club’s president Gary Bealey on Monday (December 7, 2015).

“I would like to thank on behalf of the club everyone at Monks Yard for their wonderful donation,” he said.

“We are always grateful for the support we get from the local community and the MY Community Day run at Monks Yard is a fantastic idea.”

Monks Yard – which is also a business and party venue - is managed by Mr and Mrs Osborne’s daughter Rebecca Holling and her husband Dean, while the café is managed by Carol Read.
