CHRISTMAS 2015: Plant a tree for Christmas at Ham Hill

PEOPLE from across South Somerset are being invited to join the countryside rangers this coming weekend and plant a tree at Ham Hill Country Park for Christmas.

The ranger team at South Somerset District Council’s Ham Hill Country Park near Stoke-sub-Hamdon recently received a free tree pack from the Woodland Trust to plant in Pit Wood, which form part of the country park site.

There are 450 trees in total to be planted and the rangers will be hosting a planting event on Saturday (December 5, 2015) at 10am to get them all planted. If you would like to join the team to help - please meet in Ham Hill’s Lime Kiln Car Park at 10am to walk to the planting site together.

Countryside ranger Jon Marshman said: “We have a great pack of native trees put together with the aim of attracting and supporting wildlife.

“We will be planting species like hazel and field maple, with some oaks to improve and expand the great woodlands at the country park.”

The council’s countryside spokesman, Cllr Sylvia Seal, added: “We are very thankful to the Woodland Trust for donating so many trees to us for planting.

“Planting trees at the Pit Wood site will help to restore the woodland area back to its former glory many years ago.

“If you would like to come and plant a tree for Christmas, I’m sure the ranger team would be very grateful of any help on the day.”
