SOMERSET NEWS: Stepping out for St Margaret's Hospice

HUNDREDS of walkers descended on the Ham Hill Country Park near Yeovil on Sunday (October 4, 2015) and stepped out to support St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.

It was all part of the Great Somerset Walk in aid of the hospice and after a foggy and damp start to the day, the sun soon made an appearance and as things brightened up more and more walkers arrived to register.

People could choose between a 5k and a 15k walk with the longer of the two distances proving to be the most popular option.

People of all ages took part with many family groups involved, while it also proved to be a great opportunity for some dog walking with plenty of four-legged friends on the route.SOMERSET NEWS: Stepping out for St Margaret's Hospice

The walk ended with a memorial service at 6pm in which candle bags that had been dedicated to loved ones by walkers were lit.

The hospice’s chief executive officer, Ann Lee, also gave a speech and the service provided the opportunity for quiet reflection.

A hospice spokesman said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to all those who took part in the Great Somerset Walk and to everyone who sponsored walkers.

“Your generosity and participation ensure that St Margaret’s can continue to help their patients make each day count.”

The hospice has yet to confirm how much money was raised overall.
