YEOVIL NEWS: Scrapstore to get new home

THE charity which took over the management of South Somerset District Council’s community resource service can now stand on its own two feet – that is official!

Two-and-a-half-years after the Hub Community Support Charity took over the running of the service it is now in a position to relocate and manage it without subsidy from the council.

Currently the local Scrapstore operates from Manor Stables, Yeovil, which closes its doors on Thursday, September 10, 2015.

The Hub will be retaining the Scrapstore brand including all the art and fabric elements of the former service, which includes all scrap materials that have been donated, along with all art and fabric stock. The business will reopen at their Courtyard Café in Market Street, Yeovil, on Tuesday, September 15, 2015.

Chief executive officer at The Hub, Clive Tuck, said: “The Hub Community Support Charity supports vulnerable people to develop their work and life skills. Co-locating the business alongside the café will enable The Hub to continue to offer people with learning disabilities real opportunities for work.”

Customers can to contact The Hub about their arts, fabric and scrap supplies on the same number as before 01935-424416 or via e-mail Scrapstore@thehubyeovil.co.uk and The Hub look forward to welcoming old and new members to their new premises.

The council will retain the popular community equipment hire service; details about how this will be operated in the future will be posted on the Council’s website as soon as they are available at www.southsomerset.gov.uk.

The council’s leisure and culture spokesman, Cllr Sylvia Seal, said: “I am pleased that this step will ensure the retention of core services of the Council’s former Community Resource Service while at the same time saving money for council tax payers. We wish The Hub every success with the move.”
