YEOVIL NEWS: Young people commit to healthy living

YOUNG people from Yeovil joined together to host an event to celebrate completing a year of healthy living.

The event was organised, hosted and led by a group of residents from Yeovil Foyer and saw young people share experiences about the choices they’ve made to live healthier lives.

As part of the event residents premiered a film titled ‘drugs are not ok’, which they wrote, directed and starred in. The film showcases how residents have overcome drug use.

Resident Will Sloan said: “It was really great to be involved in an event that celebrates young people’s achievements. It has really encouraged me to continue making a commitment to healthy living.

“I’ve learnt so much from being involved in this event – including gaining some filming experience! We’re hoping our film will be used in youth clubs and schools to help young people understand more about the damaging impact of drugs on people’s lives.”

Sonia Furzland, assistant director of supported housing at Knightstone, said: “The young people we work with have a huge range of talents; they’re a real asset to the community and are so inspirational. They’ve done a fantastic job organising this event to celebrate the benefits of healthier living.

“They produced an incredibly powerful film about drug use and they should be really proud of their healthy living initiatives over the last year.”

Yeovil Foyer is a supported housing service run by Knightstone as part of the Somerset-wide Pathways to Independence Service known as P2i.

The P2i service offers support for homeless and vulnerable young people aged between 16 and 24. The service offers family mediation, housing advice, emergency accommodation and supported housing.
