SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Avoid recycling confusion in Ilminster

HOUSEHOLDERS in Ilminster are being urged to take extra care when putting out materials for waste collection later this month as they have a recycling choice for their paper and card.

Both Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) and Gemini Carnival Club will be collecting paper and card on the same day on Saturday, May 30, 2015.

To avoid confusion, Gemini is advising anyone wanting to donate paper and card to the club to put it out clearly labelled “Gemini”.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Avoid recycling confusion in Ilminster

Taking place one day later than usual due to that week’s Bank Holiday Monday, residents will have their regular weekly SWP collection of 12 materials, from food waste, bottles and cans to foil, paper and cardboard.

Gemini Carnival Club will also be out collecting paper and card as it does on the last Saturday or Sunday of each month, and will urge its supporters to clearly label their paper and card “Gemini”.

As always, SWP wants householders to sort and segregate their materials in the boxes, and to have their recycling boxes and food waste container out by 7am on Saturday, May 30, weighed down if the weather is windy.

Paper goes in one box, with glass bottles and foil, while card goes in the other, with cans, plastic bottles and aerosols. Extra card should be flattened and put under or alongside the recycling boxes; more than the equivalent of two boxes of card should be taken to a recycling site.

A SWP spokesperson said: “We are keen to avoid any misunderstanding over this double collection.

“Gemini is asking anyone wanting to donate to ensure their paper or card is clearly marked with the Gemini name and put it out separately from their SWP boxes. They will need to take extra care if the day is windy.

“We will collect all materials from our containers as usual. Gemini will not be collecting any materials from our containers.”
