SOMERSET NEWS: Toaster sparks fire at Taunton property

SIX adults and four children were checked for smoke inhalation this morning (Friday, May 22, 2015) after a kitchen fire.

Fire Control received a call at just after 10am about a problem at a property in Stanley Close, Staplegrove, where the kitchen was full of smoke.

One fire crew from Taunton was sent out and officers discovered there had been a fire within a toaster that the occupier had put out using a fire blanket.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Six adults and four children were checked for smoke inhalation as a precaution.”

The toaster was destroyed by fire, while kitchen units were also damaged.

The spokesman added: “Crews fitted a smoke detector in the property.”
