SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: HGV starts sinking into the ground

FIREFIGHTERS had to stabilise a 32-tonne HGV which was sinking into the ground near Langport.

It was at 1.35pm today (Wednesday, May 13, 2015) when the alarm was raised about the problem at Picts Hill in High Ham in which a lorry was resting on a retaining wall and in danger of collapsing into a property.

A fire engine from Somerton was mobilised and then extra manpower and equipment was sent for from Martock and Yeovil.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Crews got to work to stabilise the 32-tonne HGV and the road was closed. A safety officer was put in place and recovery was arranged.”
