SOMERSET NEWS: Police v Royal Marines unite for Prostate Cancer UK

THE long arm of the law clashes with the strong arm of the military tomorrow (Tuesday, May 12, 2015) when the Royal Marines take on the region’s combined police forces in a charity football match.

Spectators are very welcome to watch the game at Bishop’s Lydeard FC, near Taunton, at 6pm.

These are two high quality sides with both sides packed with players from the top ranks of non-league clubs.

Most of the police’s players are drawn from the Avon and Somerset and Devon and Cornwall forces, whilst the Marines have a team which travels the world to represent the regiment.

One of the team managers, DC Rich O’Brien, said: “It’ll be the first time we’ll have played as a regional police representative side, so we asked the Royal Marines because they are a very strong side. We’ll see how it goes and maybe it’ll become an annual fixture.

“It should be a really good game and we hope a lot of the public will come out to watch and help us raise some money for charity. There’ll be collection tins at the game for Prostate Cancer UK and within the force we’ll hold an auction of sporting memorabilia and other goods to raise money for a very good cause.”
