SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: History unearthed in the garden

EYES will peering at the ground in Montacute today (Wednesday, April 2, 2015) to see what other treasures are unearthed from a garden.

Gardeners have been levelling out a garden at a home in the village on the outskirts of Yeovil and yesterday discovered a real “treasure trove” of items.

There were some really old bottles including Trask’s Yeovil Mineral Water, Boots the Chemist, Sloan’s Liniment, Pearson’s CampCoffee, Conreve’s Balsamic Elixir and Bisurated Magnesia Bismac.

Maxine Wilson was amazed at the assembled finds from her garden which also included an old pipe, a lead Zulu toy soldier without his spear, two Hartley’s jam pots and a lump of green-coloured marble.

“The road in front used to be a Roman supply road – fingers-crossed as to what might be found today,” she said.
