YEOVIL NEWS: Good luck to all the runners in Half Marathon 2015

HUNDREDS of runners will gather at Huish Park this morning (Sunday, March 29, 2015) in readiness for the fifth annual Yeovil Half Marathon.

The race will get underway at 9am and the first of the runners will arrive shortly after an hour later – last year’s winning time was 1hr 7m.

Although many spectators will gather at Yeovil Town FC for the start and finish of the run to wish runners well and then welcome them home, there are other key places around the 13-mile course in which to watch the marathon.

Live music and refreshments will be available at the Ninesprings Café at Yeovil Country Park near to Goldenstones leisure centre.

Another good vantage point for spectators will be at the top of Hendford Hill at the Quicksilver Mail pub.

While the Airfield Tavern roundabout will also be a good spot for supporters. The Airfield Tavern will be open from 8am for hot and cold drinks and breakfast.

An army of marshals will be out on the course to ensure that runners keep to the route and safety of spectators.

Will there be any new records set for the course? Francis Tickner, of Wells City Harriers, holds the men’s record at 1hr 7m, while Lucy MacAllister, of Bristol & West AC, holds the women’s record at 1hr 17m.

King of the Hill record – based on the quickest up Hendford Hill – is currently 2m 12s set by Chris Burton of Yeovil Town Road Running Club. Queen of the Hill record is held by Holly Rush, of Team Bath AC.

While many will be going to set “personal best” times - lots of runners will be looking to raise as much money as possible for charity.
