Ferne Animal Sanctuary’s group retail manager, William Whitechurch, said: “The decision was taken to open a branch in Langport because it is a special and unique town with a fantastic collection of independent traders.

“There is a great community spirit and support for each other and it draws from all the villages on The Levels.

“I feel that it is important that Ferne Animal Sanctuary Retail is part of the community that it serves. Langport and the surrounding areas have huge support for the Sanctuary and have re-homed many animals.

“The shops are very important to Ferne, not only because of the funds they generate but also as a way of promoting the Sanctuary within the area.”

The Sanctuary has two other shops based in Chard and at Bridport in Dorset.

Everyone is warmly invited to attend the opening and view the new premises.

Ferne Animal Sanctuary is a registered charity at Wambrook, near Chard, and is open to the public all year round, except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

They re-home within a 40-mile radius of their site including Somerset, Devon and Dorset and rely solely on donations.
