YEOVIL NEWS: Hospital is still on Black Alert

YEOVIL District Hospital is still under immense pressure to deal with a high number of patients.

Earlier this week the hospital was put in a state of Black Alert due to services being stretched by the amount of people coming through the doors needing treatment.

Although numbers have reduced, the hospital goes into the weekend still on Black Alert, while some wards are still affected by the sickness bug norovirus.

“Although there has been a marginal reduction in the number of people attending our emergency department, we are still under significant pressure going into the weekend, with no spare capacity within our wards,” said a hospital spokesman this afternoon (Friday, February 27, 2015).YEOVIL NEWS: Hospital is still on Black Alert

“A small number of wards remain affected by the norovirus. Our hospital therefore remains on ‘Black’ alert.”

The spokesman added: “As always, our priority is the health and welfare of our patients and we are grateful to our staff for ensuring that those who need our care can continue to access it despite these pressures.

“This means making the best use of staff expertise and hospital capacity, and enabling as many patients as possible to return home on the same day as they attend.

“We will review the situation on Monday (March 2, 2015) afternoon, following the weekend, and will issue an update as soon as the alert status changes.

“We would like to thank patients and visitors for their understanding and recognise the commitment and hard work of all our staff to ensure the continuity of first-class care for our patients.”
