SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Fire ravages furniture warehouse

A MASSIVE fire ravaged a furniture warehouse in Chard last night (Thursday, February 5, 2015).

Firefighters from Chard, Axminster, Crewkerne, Wiveliscombe, Colyton, Wellington, Honiton and Yeovil all attended the scene in East Street, Chard, shortly after 8.15pm.

One person was taken to hospital suffering from burns, while nearby homes were evacuated due to there being gas cylinders inside the Derhams Removals building.

By 2.45am this morning (Friday, February 6, 2015) the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was reporting that the entire building had been severely damaged in the blaze.

It is understood that the cause of the fire was accidental and the main A30 East Street in Chard is closed to traffic this morning while work continues at the site.
