YEOVIL NEWS: Hospital looks for volunteers

YEOVIL District Hospital is looking for volunteers to join its dementia team.

The Hospital Trust is looking for volunteers who can spend time with patients on the ward, doing activities with them and keeping them company.

Nurse consultant for older people, Janine Valentine, said: “The hospital can be a very disorientating environment for anyone but particularly for people with a dementia and having people to talk to or to do some activity with is invaluable to these patient's wellbeing whilst they are in hospital.

“We have a number of volunteers who currently work with us and who find the role both enjoyable and rewarding.”

Previous knowledge and experience of dementia is advantageous although it is not essential and a full induction and orientation will be provided along with education and training about dementia.
