YEOVIL NEWS: Attempted robbery on Queensway bridge

POLICE are investigating an attempted robbery in the centre of Yeovil on Friday evening (January 23, 2015) at about 5.15pm.

It happened at Queensway Place, on the footbridge near the Tesco Extra store.

The victim, a woman walking alone, was grabbed by a man on a bike who tried to steal her bag and phone. Fortunately nothing was stolen and after a struggle the offender escaped on a bike over the bridge towards the Huish area of town.

The male is described as white, and between 30 and 40 years old. He had a scruffy facial hair and looked unclean and drawn. He was wearing a dark beanie style hat and was on a white bike.

The area would have been busy at the time and a couple of members of the public did intervene.

If you were among those who saw what happened or saw a man on a bike in that area, please call Yeovil police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. The crime reference is 8088/15.
