SOMERSET NEWS: Praise for schools making progress with vulnerable children

THREE Somerset schools – in Yeovil, Bridgwater and Shepton Mallet - have been praised for work they have done to make sure the county’s most vulnerable children are making great progress.

Wembdon St George’s in Bridgwater, Upton Noble in Shepton and Preston Primary in Yeovil have each been granted £1,000 as part of the Pupil Premium Award for 2015.SOMERSET NEWS: Praise for schools making progress with vulnerable children

The Pupil Premium Award recognises schools in England who have been working hard since 2011 to narrow the gap for disadvantaged children. The staff at each of the schools have been commended for providing disadvantaged pupils with a good start in life and for preparing them well for secondary school.

Somerset County Council’s children and families spokesman, Cllr Frances Nicholson, said: “These grants are testament to the hard work, dedication and ambition of the staff team at each school to make sure that all children have the best start to life, regardless of their background.

“I would like to congratulate and thank staff, governors, parents and pupils at each of these schools for their success in narrowing the gap and the difference that they are making.”
