YEOVIL NEWS: Santa Dash for St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice

HO-HO-HO! Around 200 runners dressed in red and white Father Christmas costumes turned out today (Sunday, December 14, 2014) to support St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.

The annual Santa Dash saw runners take part in the 4k run at Yeovil Country Park which was once again excellently organised by the Yeovil Town Road Running Club.YEOVIL NEWS: Santa Dash for St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice

The Santa Dash contestants were blessed with dry conditions this year – unlike last year when they had to endure driving rain and strong winds – as they made their way from the Goldenstones leisure pool to Wyndham Hill and back again.

The actual “race” was immaterial with the most important aspect of the event being to raise as much money as possible for St Margaret’s.

But just for the record it was Jon Crane who came home first in a time of 17mins 5secs – just ahead of runner-up Dave Stanfield, who was third last year, and third-placed Mark Gosney. Last year’s runner-up Matt Driver was fourth this time around in a time of 17mins 44secs.

First lady home was Kirsty Norman, of Gillingham Trotters, in a time of 19mins 42secs.

The overall team winners were Milsted Langdon with Andrew Covey, Dave Formosa, Brian Mountjoy-Row and Ben Nation. Runners-up were the IT Santas of Ashleigh Foote, Tim Netto, Matthew Priddle and Andrew Dann.

Among the runners were the Deputy Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Darren Shutler, and the Deputy Mayoress, Anna Shutler.

The charity’s fundraiser Gemma Wilkes, who was at Yeovil Country Park to congratulate the runners, said their efforts were greatly appreciated and every penny would go towards providing services at the St Margaret’s Hospice.

The Santa Dash was once again sponsored by Milsted Langdon.
