SOMERSET NEWS: Gas explosion at Taunton flat

A MAN was taken to hospital last night (Friday, December 12, 2014) suffering from burns after a gas explosion at a flat in Taunton.

The incident happened at just before 11.30pm in Gaunton Close and three fire engines from Taunton were mobilised.

Firefighters discovered the explosion had taken place in a first floor flat.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The ground floor, first floor external wall and roof were unsafe and the gas was isolated.

“One male person was rescued from the first floor flat by fire crews and the casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance believed to be suffering from burns.”

The area around the property was cordoned off and police evacuated the building. Engineers from the Wales and West Utilities were also requested to attend.
