SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Refurb work at leisure centres

THREE gyms at leisure centres in South Somerset are to undergo a major refurbishment thanks to investment from the 1610 leisure trust which manages the centres.

Preston Sports Centre in Yeovil, Stanchester Sports Centre at Stoke-sub-Hamdon and Caryford Leisure Centre at Castle Cary are to have new gym equipment and technology installed to enable users to get the most of their workouts.

Preston Sports Centre is to have the state of the art Functional Training equipment known as Kinesis Stations installed. Kinesis machines or stations are resistance cable exercise equipment which allow a wide range of movement and exercise patterns and which are very effective in helping to improve strength and endurance. Free weights will also be added to the gym along with the Kinesis Stations.

Stanchester Sports Centre will have all its cardio equipment and weight equipment upgraded, such as treadmills which will be fitted with new screens which will offer users access to a choice of media as well as a variety of games while they work out.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Refurb work at leisure centres

At Caryford Leisure Centre at Castle Cary the latest Cloud technology is to be installed on cardio vascular equipment providing them a connected platform allowing them access to the Internet, various apps, as well as TV while working out on the treadmill or on other cardio gym stations. The new Technogym technology also allows users to monitor their fitness via a Wellness Key so they can access an online account where they can monitor their personal fitness information, and track their progress with weight, blood pressure and cardio vascular fitness.

New Power Plate “Vibration Training” machines are also being installed at Caryford which can also be used for fitness training as well as rehabilitation and body conditioning.

The refurbishments will mean some inconvenience for customers as the gyms at all three centres will have to close temporarily while the new equipment is installed.

The work will start on Friday, December 5, 2014. The gym at Preston will close for one day and is expected to reopen on the evening of December 5, although there will be some additional works taking place the following week but with little disruption to members.

Stanchester Sports Centre gym and Caryford Leisure Centre gym will be closed for two days while the work is completed with both gyms expected to reopen on Wednesday, December 10, 2014.
