SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: MP welcomes progress report on The Beacon

PROGRESS being made to repair The Beacon road at Ilminster has been welcomed by Yeovil MP David Laws.

The much-needed work to repair the B3168 road began on October 27, 2014, and South Somerset Highways Office announced that it was scheduled to take seven weeks, meaning the road would be open in time for Christmas.

Although there has been some bed weather recently, the work is progressing well and the Highways Office are still confident that the road will be ready to reopen during the week commencing December 15, 2014.

“Everybody in the local area has been waiting an awfully long time for The Beacon to be repaired, and there was a lot of relief when the work finally began last month,” he said.

“I am pleased to see that the work has progressed well, despite the poor weather, and that the repairs are still scheduled to finish before Christmas.

“Hopefully the Highways Office will be able to stick to this timeframe and December will mark the end of this long-running and frustrating saga.”

The road has been closed since February this year.
