SCHOOL NEWS: Salvage Hunters at Bruton

BRUTON School for Girls was turned into a film set for the day when star of TV’s Salvage Hunters arrived to rummage amongst the hidden treasures at the girls’ school.

Drew Pritchard, the antiques and restoration expert, had his eye on stools and easels from the art department as well as an ancient iron weather vane.

Estates bursar, Alan Wells, guided them around the school just before the end of term in July and revealed the cache of stools and easels dating back to when the school first opened in 1900.

They were quickly snapped up by the crew along with the cast iron cockerel weather vane which originally stood proudly aloft one of the school’s boarding houses.

Alan said: “They knew immediately that our old art stools would be in demand and, with some restoration work, they were convinced the weather vane would be saleable too.

“They seemed genuinely impressed by the older fixtures and fittings we have retained in the Old School House and were amazed at our beautiful grounds and the stunning view from Sunny Hill.”

Alan explained that the experience of having a film crew on site was fascinating but was relieved to get back to the business of managing the 40 acre site after his day in the TV spotlight!
