YEOVIL NEWS: Flying the flag for Carnival

THE one-and-only Carnivalite from Yeovil is flying the flag for the town at processions around the county.

Rebecca Wilton has been Yeovil’s solitary Carnival club entry at the parades on the South Somerset circuit at Wellington and Ilminster in recent weeks and on Saturday (October 11, 2014) at Chard before finishing at Taunton this coming weekend (Saturday, October 18, 2014).YEOVIL NEWS: Flying the flag for Carnival

But Rebecca will then be entering the Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnival Circuit starting with the massive Bridgwater procession on Saturday, November 1, 2014.

“I may not be a large float or an extravagant walking entry, but I continue to bring out an entry every year to represent my home town,” Rebecca told the Yeovil Press.

Rebecca said her love of Carnival was nurtured when being part of Yeovil Carnival which unfortunately stopped a number of years ago now due to mounting financial costs and a lack of supporters.

There are hopes that Carnival might be revived in Yeovil in 2015 and Rebecca would dearly love to see those plans come to fruition.

Rebecca’s walking entry this year is entitled Attraction and sees her dressed as a blue fairy on a pink waterlily.

The name of Rebecca’s Carnival club is Spirit CC and it is that spirit which Yeovil will need if the colourful spectacle of Carnival is ever to return to the town.
