SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Harlequin take top honours at Chard Carnival

THE swashbuckling pirates of Harlequin CC took top honours at Chard Carnival last night (Saturday, October 11, 2014).

Harlequin beat off their main rivals of Gemini CC, also of Ilminster, with their tableaux Transformers The Cube, and the ever-improving Eclipse CC, of Chard, with their feature float Dead Men Tell No Tales, to win the Grand Challenge Cup for best in procession.

Eclipse are certainly beginning to worry the big two of Gemini and Harlequin and they took a number of cups at last night’s Carnival including best music and best routine.

Gemini were not to be without success and they won the Bert Phippen Trophy for best costumes as well as winning the tableaux category.

The cups were shared out with other clubs and entries picking up silverware being Generations CC, Poppe Inne CC, Zem CC, Jessica Lacey with Jess CC, Lily Cumming, Dee Gees CC, Club 2000 CC, Xtreme CC, Friends CC, A&A CC, and Unicorn CC.

The weather stayed dry for the parade and families and friends, young and old, crowded the streets to applaud the Carnival entrants.

Comic – 1 One Plus One CC, Nunny Summit; 2 Poppe Inne CC, The Poppe Stones; 3 Harbourside CC, Stars Trekkin. Youth – 1 Club 2000 CC, El Nino. Open – 1 Zem CC, Flash Bang Wallop. Individual single masquerader juvenile – 1 Lorna Stevenson, Catch a Dream; 2 Rio Welsh, Davy Jones Locker; 3 Nancy Stephenson. Individual single masquerador adult – 1 Andy Tizzard, Whiz Pop Bang Bang; 2 Jacks CC, Aztec Artisan; 3 Judy Williams, Chess. Walking pairs – 1 Dee Gee’s CC, Nordic Walkers; 2 A&A CC, Mr and Mrs; 3 Inferno CC, Double Tiki. Walking groups – 1 Cousins CC, Wonderland Shuffle. Walkers non-federation – 1 Friends CC, Let It Snow; 2 Lily Cumming, Peacock; 3 Osscar Collins, Jungle Warrior. Walking groups of masqueraders wheeled – 1 Xtreme CC, Hear Me Roar.
