YEOVIL NEWS: Meet the talented Mr Whitchurch – better known this week as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

TALENTED performer Luke Whitchurch is having the time of his life this week at the Octagon Theatre in the lead role of Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society’s fantastic production of Jekyll and Hyde.

Amazingly it is Luke’s first leading role with YAOS having played numerous parts in the past for YAOS including South Pacific and Half a Sixpence in 2012, Guys and Dolls in 2013 and Sister Act earlier this year.

And he has admitted that the character of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde has been the most challenging of his career with powerful singing and intense acting.

The Yeovil Press was lucky enough to have been invited to a rehearsal at YAOS’ headquarters on the Pen Mill Trading Estate several weeks ago where we saw Luke in full-flown character mode – so much so that his power and passion left some of his co-members looking slightly bewildered and scared!

He has said in the show programme that he would like to thank director Jeremy Tustin and musical director Kat Stevens for the professional help and guidance they have given him and described it as a “real privilege” to work with YAOS.

Luke has said he wants to thank, in particular, Jennifer Holland-Brewer (Lucy Harris), Naomi Riglar (Emma Carew) and Shaun Driver (Gabriel Utterson) – his main on-stage companions – for being so pleasurable and easy to work with.

Tickets to see Luke and the rest of the YAOS team in action in Jekyll and Hyde are on sale from the Octagon box office on 01935-422884.

The show is on tonight (Thursday, October 9, 2014), tomorrow (Friday, October 10, 2014) and Saturday (October 11, 2014) at 7.30pm and tickets are priced £17 per person. There is also a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday and tickets are priced £14.
