YEOVIL NEWS: Co-op confirm Fleur De Lys store plans

THE Southern Co-operative has confirmed this afternoon (Monday, October 6, 2014) that it plans to turn the recently-closed Fleur De Lys pub in Yeovil into a convenience store and create 18 jobs for the area.

The Yeovil Press revealed last week that pub owners Punch Taverns had agreed a lease with the Southern Co-operative for the pub building which sits on the corner of the junction of St Michael’s Avenue with Mudford Road.YEOVIL NEWS: Co-op confirm Fleur De Lys store plans

And a Southern Co-operative spokesman, speaking to the Yeovil Press, this afternoon said: “We have acquired the lease of the Fleur De Lys pub site in Yeovil from Punch Taverns and, subject to planning permission and premises licence, intend to open a neighbourhood convenience store within the existing building.

“Only minor alterations to the building are planned as part of its renovation.”

The Southern Co-operative is an independent regional business, owned by 150,000 members, and operating solely across the south of England.

The spokesman added: “This new store in Yeovil will create around 18 jobs for local people.”

The nearest Southern Co-operative stores to Yeovil are in Sturminster Newton, Bridgwater, Mere and Norton Fitzwarren near Taunton.

“As a co-operative, we have always had a purpose beyond profit and are committed to making a difference in our local communities,” added the spokesman.

The news comes after a local councillor, Cllr Jon Gleeson, said this morning that he would be looking to try and keep the Fleur De Lys as a pub.
