FIRST WORLD WAR 100: Help wanted over First World War photos

THE Community Heritage Access Centre has been left wanting to know more information about a recent donation after it included photographs of a First World War survivor who lived in Yeovil.

The CHAC, run by South Somerset District Council, received a large donation of an archive concerning Betty Webb who was active in Yeovil Baptist Church. She was born in Andover and the family moved to Yeovil when she was a child.

Amongst the archive, there were two photographs of Betty’s father, C E Webb, taken during the First World War. He survived the war and lived in Yeovil with Betty.

Apart from this, nothing further is known of Mr Webb, which regiment he served with or what he is doing in the photograph with the fur wrapped round him.

The council’s leisure and culture spokesman, Cllr Sylvia Seal, said: “Staff at CHAC often come across items that have small clues to their links with Yeovil.

“It’s their job to piece the jigsaw together and reach out to communities for information.

“The staff at CHAC are always willing to help, so if you think you may have an item that can add to the heritage of south Somerset, please contact CHAC.”

This year marks the 100th anniversary of when the First World War began in 1914.
