SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Results and news from Ilminster Children's Carnival

YOUNG people and their parents once again showed off their creativity and ingenuity on Saturday (September 27, 2014) with the ever-popular annual Ilminster Children’s Carnival.

Crowds lined the streets and clapped and cheered as the parade weaved its way through the town centre.

The judges were given another tough challenge to determine the winning entries in the various categories.

Overall winner of this year’s procession were Carnival “veterans” Megan Norman and Jessica Dawe, along with Jaclyne Dawe, and their entry Wonderland Shuffle based on the story Alice in Wonderland.

The Brownies and Rainbows won the Tony Goverd Cup for the Spirit of Carnival with Frosty Friends, while the Barbara Lee Cup for best overall individual costume was won by Owen Muckersie as the boy in the Let It Snow entry he was in alongside Lucy May Brion and Brooke and Harper Oliver.

Lara and Logan Summerscales won the prize for best originality with Wash Day.

Ilminster Children’s Carnival results: Single entry up to seven years on foot – 1 Georgia and the Dragon, Georgia Hounsell; 2 Flutterby Butterfly, Molly Hughes; 3 Frozen, Isabelle Winscombe; 4 Beefeater of Ilminster, Jamie Lancaster.

Single entry eight-years-old to 16-years-old on foot – 1 Peacock, Lily Cumming; 2 Ice Cream Sundae, Aless Hounsell.

Individual or pair or group of three with non-motorised vehicle including pushchairs bikes etc (up to 16-years-old) – 1 You Are A Pirate, Alfie Windsor; 2 Princess of Pegasus, Lana Suckling; 3 Born to Shop, Hannah Knight.

Group of four or more with non-motorised vehicle including pushchairs, bikes up (up to the age of 16-years-old) – 1 Roar, Maria Cox, Baila Loveless, Sophia Mitton, Natasha Vincent; 2 Frozen Fun, Ryan Broome, Dary Broome, Sydney & Tai Loveless, Ava Larcombe, Sonny Larcombe, Lucy Spooner, Millie Wilkes.

Originality – Chard & Ilminster News Cup: Wash Day, Lara and Logan Summerscales.
