SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Crowds come out for Carnival fun!

THE crowds came out last night (Saturday, September 13, 2014) to support the annual South Petherton Carnival.

The Carnival was blessed with great weather once again which encouraged people to line the streets to watch and cheer the parade of floats, masqueraders, bands and majorettes.

There were a whole host of themes taken on board by the Carnival entrants including the jungle, pirates, the desert and the 1980s.

Overall champion of this year’s South Petherton Carnival was the Brewers Arms with their jungle-inspired float Roar.

But it was Rascalls CC who took first place in the feature section with Rumble in the Jungle, while West Bay CC were second with Stars Trekkin and Brewers were third.

Angiel Allen CC won the comic category with Hareem Delight and there was plenty of humour in the Carnival with SouthPethertonJuniorSchool and their Red Barrows, and South Petherton Cricket Club with Wacky Races.

The 2nd South Petherton Scouts Group once again had a great entry with Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Chairman’s Special Award for Endeavour was won by SouthPethertonInfantsSchool with Samba.

The Carnival chairman, Dave Williams, has decided to call it a day after eight years and is hoping to find a replacement to fill the role. Anyone interested in getting more details – please call Dave on 01460-249336.
