SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Carnival looks for a super hero to take over chairman’s role

THE South Petherton Carnival Committee is on the hunt for a new chairman with Dave Williams having decided to call it a day.

Dave used the Carnival’s annual programme to announce his decision to stand down as chairman after eight years in the role.

“I would like to say how much I have enjoyed having the privilege of being chairman over the last eight years,” he said.

“The committee has made it a pleasure due to its hard work in being able to put on a Carnival each year.”

Dave added: “I hope a replacement will come forward so that the tradition of Carnival can grow in South Petherton.

“It is not an onerous job, but it is immensely satisfying and I would be more than happy to meet with anyone at their convenience to discuss what is involved and to mentor someone over the first year.”

Although Dave might be slightly modest in his appraisal of the chairman’s role, he has received the thanks of the South Petherton community for his hard work in which he has performed "super hero" efforts in making sure that Carnival has continued.

Ian Lukins, of South Petherton Cricket Club, said: “We’d like to thank Dave Williams for what he has done over the last eight years.

“His enthusiastic and positive approach has been amazing.”

Last night’s South Petherton Carnival was again blessed with good weather which encouraged hundreds of people to line the streets to watch the parade.

Dave added: “I would like to thank all those individuals who have given their time and efforts to make this year’s Carnival a success.”
