YEOVIL NEWS: Gulls have gone - abseil is on!

FINAL preparations are being made ahead of this weekend’s charity abseil at Yeovil District Hospital which had to originally be cancelled back in June because of some unexpected feathered visitors.

Organisers of the successful abseil events in aid of the hospital’s Flying Colours Appeal had to call a halt to the planned June date after they found a gulls’ nest containing baby chicks just yard from the “launch” site 100-foot off the ground.

After much deliberation and with the advice of health and safety and conservation experts, some of whom endured “dive-bombing” from the protective gull parents, the reluctant decision was made to postpone the event until the birds had gone.

But a Flying Colours Appeal spokesman said this week: “You will be pleased to know there are NO signs of the seagulls – so there are no excuses this time!

“We are pretty much altogether for the abseil on Sunday (September 14, 2014). I can’t wait to see everyone and the weather is looking like it’s going to be lovely for a little walk down a building!”

Just over 40 people are booked in to take part in Sunday’s abseil, while a similar event is planned for October 5, 2014, for those who could not make this weekend’s replacement date.

Good luck to all those taking part.
