YEOVIL NEWS: Volunteers needed to pack some School in a Bags

VOLUNTEERS are needed next week to help with the Piers Simon Appeal and its School in a Bag initiative.

Organisers of the charity have got some big orders of School Bags to pack and need some extra hands to pack the bags.

They are looking for people to help out during the day on Monday and Tuesday (September 15-16, 2014) at the charity’s headquarters in Chilthorne Domer.

Luke Simon, of the PSA and School in a Bag project, said: “We only need a couple hours of your time and can supply cups of tea!”

Please email volunteer@schoolinabag.org if you want further details.

School in a Bag is a simple solution created to help poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster-affected children throughout the world.

Each School Bag is filled with stationery, learning resources and eating utensils that will enable a child to write draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and above all learn.

The PSA and School in a Bag project were created in memory of former YeovilCollege student Piers Simon who was killed in the Asian tsunami of 2004.

To date the fundraising has paid for 50,672 bags. A total of 48,393 have been packed; 46,912 have been shipped off around the globe; and 45,906 have been delivered to children.

It has become a truly global project with bags delivered to children in Swaziland, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Kenya, Ghana, India, Thailand, South Africa, The Gambia, Nepal, Brazil, Tanzania, Madagascar, Nigeria, Uganda and The Philippines.
