SOMERSET NEWS: Man suffers serious burns in fire

A MAN suffering from serious burns was taken to hospital this morning (Thursday, August 28, 2014) after being rescued from a burning home in Somerset.

The alarm was raised at just after midnight when the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received several reports of a property on fire in East Reach, Taunton.

A Fire Service spokesman told the Yeovil Press: “Callers believed that there was someone still inside the property.”

Three fire engines from Taunton were mobilised and firefighters discovered a fire in a ground floor bedroom with one person still inside.

One man was rescued from the property and treated by the Ambulance Service for serious burns. He was transferred to hospital by ambulance.

The Fire Service spokesman added: “An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.”

The bedroom was 30 per cent damaged by fire and 90 per cent damaged by heat and smoke.
