YEOVILTON NEWS: Imperial Service Medal presented to long-serving Civil Servant

A CIVIL Servant has been presented with the Imperial Service Medal after 45 years loyal service at Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton.

Barry Critchell joined the Civil Service on January 22, 1968, when he took up a position as storekeeper for the gymnasium at Yeovilton.

He retired last year having spent every day of his 45 years service at Yeovilton’s gym - unstinting in his storekeeper duties.

“It was a pleasure to come to work every day,” said Barry, who lives in Ilchester.

He was presented with his medal by the Commanding Officer at RNAS Yeovilton, Commodore Jock Alexander OBE.YEOVILTON NEWS: Imperial Service Medal presented to long-serving Civil Servant

Barry, on receiving the medal, said: “It’s absolutely wonderful to be recognised for my years of faithful service.

“I have enjoyed my job very much. I will be showing my medal to all my friends and family, especially the sequence dancers that my wife Jo and I dance with.”

The Imperial Service Medal is a medal affiliated with the Imperial Service Order. The medal was established under the statutes of the Imperial Service Order on August 8, 1902, by King Edward VII.

It is presented to selected civil servants at the prerogative of the Sovereign who on leaving the service have given not less than 25 years meritorious service.
