YEOVIL NEWS: Fleeing for his life 2,500 miles away in Iraq - a man wearing a Yeovil Town shirt!

EAGLE-EYED football fans may have seen an unexpected sight on the TV news tonight (Tuesday, August 19, 2014) when they saw a man - fleeing for his life 2,500 miles away in troubled Iraq - wearing a Yeovil Town FC shirt.

Thousands of people from Iraq’s threatened Yazidi religious community are seeking safety in Syria.

Earlier this month the Yazidi had been deemed “devil worshippers” by the jihadist group ISIS, widely regarded as a terrorist organisation, and thousands of people have been fleeing.

The latest news about the troubles was featured on Channel 4 News tonight where a group of Yazidi were filmed including one wearing a Yeovil Town shirt.

Where, how and why he is wearing a Yeovil Town shirt – who knows – but fans have been speaking on social media tonight hoping that the man was safe and well and that it had certainly put football into some kind of surreal perspective.
