SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Arson attack on barn

ARSONISTS are being blamed for a fire which completely destroyed a barn at a farm in South Somerset.

The alarm was raised at just after 3am this morning (Sunday, August 10, 2014) to the incident in Torbay Road, Castle Cary.

Fire engines from Castle Cary, Wincanton and Shepton Mallet were mobilised to attend along with a water carrier from Yeovil.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told the Yeovil Press: “Crews confirmed one barn made of concrete to be well alight with more than 100 bales of straw inside.”

Further Fire Service support was requested from Exeter to attend, while Environment Agency and a local council environmental health officer were informed.

The spokesman added: “The barn was completely destroyed by fire along with the 150 bales of hay within the barn.

“The cause of the fire is believed to have been deliberate.”
