YEOVIL NEWS: Let’s talk about drugs, booze and mental health

GPs and health professionals in South Somerset are inviting local people to attend a meeting in Yeovil and take part in an open discussion about drug and alcohol misuse and its impact upon mental health and wellbeing.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Wynford House on Lufton Way in Yeovil and starts at 7pm.YEOVIL NEWS: Let’s talk about drugs, booze and mental health

A South Somerset Healthcare Federation spokesman said: “With unemployment, the rising costs of living and growing debt problems adding to many people’s day-to-day problems, it not surprising Somerset’s GPs are often the first point of contact for people seeking help with stress, anxiety and depression.

“However, a major concern within the community are the numbers of people, fearful about the stigma that comes with mental ill health, may mask their personal problems for weeks, months or even years, before seeking professional help.

“Turning to alcohol or drugs might seem to a way of coping but it brings serious health and social problems and often leads to personal crisis or even family breakdown.”

Members of the public who would like to attend the meeting, ask questions and share views are asked to contact Christine Lincoln on 01935-385020 or e mail christine.lincoln@somersetccg.nhs.uk to reserve a seat.
