Staff from various departments of the hospital – including housekeeping, A&E, radiology, clinical governance, fundraising, volunteer network, paediatrics, finance, catering, dementia team, access, pharmacy, chaplaincy, therapies, management, dieticians, human resources, rehabilitation, estates and facilities management, theatre, procurement and maternity – all took part in the fun video.

But it has prompted a number of angry comments from people who viewed the video on YouTube and have criticised the hospital’s “Tom Foolery.”

“Simply dreadful,” wrote one disgruntled viewer. “I am glad to see the top managers have nothing better to do than act the fool.

“I know why the nurses, maintenance and porters are not in it – they are too busy looking after the patients.

“I hope the Secretary of State for Health agrees this was a waste of time and money and takes some form of action.

“I also hope anyone looking at this Tom Foolery has not had their operation cancelled recently.”

There were a number of other similar negative comments posted on YouTube about the video, although there has been PLENTY OF POSITIVITY from other people speaking on other social networking outlets such as Twitter and Facebook who saw it as merely a piece of fun.

Yeovil Hospital’s chief executive Paul Mears has responded to the critical comments on YouTube and invited one complainant to go in for a meeting.

Mr Mears wrote: “This video was made by a number of members of staff and included staff from midwifery, physio, dieticians, nursing, housekeeping as well as a ten-second shot of the hospital management team.

“I appreciate you do not like the video, which is of course fine, but I have heard much positive feedback from people both inside and outside the organisation about it.”

Although there have been some negative comments posted on YouTube - the video has so far received 97 "thumbs-ups" from viewers as opposed to just 12 "thumbs-down."

Perhaps that tells the story.
