SOMERSET NEWS: Wheelie bins set on fire

POLICE have launched an investigation into an arson attack in a Somerset town which left people needing medical treatment.

Two wheelie bins were set on fire in Bridgwater around 11pm last Friday (May 30, 2014) near the junction of The Pippins and Crossacre.SOMERSET NEWS: Wheelie bins set on fire

One bin had already been put out for collection the next day, but the heat and smoke from the fire spread to a bin store and caused damaged to an adjoining flat including warped guttering, fuse boxes, a cracked window and roof tiles.

The occupants of the flat were also left suffering from smoke inhalation.

A second wheelie bin – opposite the first and on Crossacre – was also set alight at the same time.

A police spokesman said: “An investigation has begun in order to identify the person responsible for the fires.

“We’d like to hear from anyone who saw someone acting suspiciously in the area at the time or knows who is responsible.”
