SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Cricket match is a winner for charity

Cricket match is a winner for charity

AN amazing day of fundraising and cricket held yesterday (Sunday, May 25, 2014) in Ilminster helped to raise £1,221 for the Beacon Centre in Taunton and Breast Cancer Research.

Players past and present from Ilminster CC – with teams captained by Craig Rice and Adrian Sims - took part in a charity match at the Recreation Ground in Canal Way.

The bar at The Shed was open all day for supporters to partake in one or two beverages, while a barbecue helped to keep everybody fed.

There was a tombola stall and cream teas, plus a bouncy castle for the younger spectators to enjoy.

The fundraising was organised by breast cancer suffer Claire Rice who was diagnosed in June last year. She has now been given the all-clear following chemotherapy treatment.

But she wanted to “give something back” for the support she received and decided to hold the fundraiser in aid of Breast Cancer Research and the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

Claire and her co-organisers would like to thank everyone for their wonderful support.
