YEOVIL NEWS: Anyone for tennis?

THE Yeovil Recreation Centre is opening its doors over three weekends and offering free tennis sessions on the artificial grass pitch.

Free tennis will be available on June 21-22, June 28-29 and July 19-20, 2014. The initiative is part of the Great British Tennis Weekend which will see over 1,500 park sites and tennis clubs open up for free.

South Somerset District Council’s senior sports and healthy lifestyles officer, Jake Hannis, said: “Wimbledon always sees interest in tennis soar and we want to offer everyone an opportunity to try the sport free of charge in a welcoming environment.YEOVIL NEWS: Anyone for tennis?

“This will be the first time our artificial grass pitch has been used for tennis and we have special nets and line markings ready to use.

“It’s easy to take part, just visit the Great British Tennis Weekend website, choose a day and then book a slot. We will also provide balls and racquets so all you have to do is pop your trainers on and bring a £5 deposit for the equipment.”

Each day will be split into two sessions. The first session takes place from 10am to 2pm and will focus on family tennis and then from 2pm to 5pm everyone can get involved, whether they’ve never tried tennis before, want to get back into the game or are a regular player.

As there are limited spaces available advanced booking is recommended at   www.greatbritishtennisweekend.com.
