YEOVIL NEWS: Town criers in booming voice!

OYEZ OYEZ! Rain and cloudy weather failed to dampen the spirits of more than 20 town criers who gathered in Yeovil over the weekend to test their booming vocal chords on shoppers.

The annual Town Criers Competition again attracted a healthy bunch of finely dressed town criers and their escorts.

The competition took place at the open air entertainment area in Lower Middle Street throughout the day before the results were announced in the afternoon at the Mermaid Hotel in High Street.

Overall winner was named Jon Bartholomew, of Hastings, Sussex, who impressed the judges with his vocal skills.

It was a debut victory for Jon who was taking part in the Yeovil event for the first time, although he has won a number of other top town crier competitions.

Full results will be published later today (Monday, April 28, 2014).
